Gill Returns To Mammoth In Deal With Rush
March 25, 2008 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth has reacquired prolific scorer and 12-year National Lacrosse League veteran Chris Gill from the Edmonton Rush.
In a deal Tuesday, the league's trade deadline day, the Mammoth sent a first-round pick in the 2008 entry draft to the Rush in exchange for Gill and a second-round selection in this summer's draft.
Gill, who was eighth on the NLL's all-time scoring list entering with 302 goals entering the 2008 season, has 12 goals and 17 points in eight games.
"We're very excited to reacquire Chris. He is a great athlete and plays the game with passion and desire," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "He's been followed by success wherever he goes, and has been a great player in this league for many years."
A 5-foot-11, 188-pound native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Gill led the Rush in 2007 with 37 goals and 62 points. In 2006, his one season with the Mammoth, Gill tallied 29 goals and 45 points, leading the Mammoth with 17 power-play goals.
"I'm really excited about returning to Colorado and to the Mammoth organization," Gill said. "It will be nice playing for a championship contender and to be playing alongside former teammates."
Gill, who has won three NLL championships, including the 2006 title with the Mammoth, was selected for the 2007 NLL All-Star Game but did not attend due to a personal commitment. He has previously played for the Calgary Roughnecks, Vancouver Ravens, Toronto Rock and Baltimore Thunder.
In a related move, the Mammoth sent forward Matt Brown to the inactive roster. Brown's coaching commitments to the University of Denver men's lacrosse program has made it difficult for him to be available for Mammoth games.
