
Giants' Byram Named WHL McSweeney's Player of the Month

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Vancouver Giants defenceman Bowen Byram has been named the WHL McSweeney's Player of the Month for April 2019.
The Canadian Hockey League's top-ranked prospect ahead of the 2019 NHL Draft, Byram recorded 10 points (4G-6A) and a plus-three rating in nine games during April. Byram's efforts helped the Giants sweep the Victoria Royals in the second round and defeat the Spokane Chiefs in five games in the Western Conference Championship to secure a berth in the 2019 Rogers #WHLChampionship Series. It's their first appearance in the #WHLChampionship since 2007.
Byram recorded four multi-point performances in the calendar month, taking over the 2019 WHL Playoffs scoring lead. The Cranbrook, B.C. product was recognized as the first star of the game twice while also earning the second star of the game once. He was named the WHL's First Star of the Night twice.
Selected third overall by the Giants in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft, the 6-foot-1, 192-pound Byram has continually impressed this season. In the 2019 WHL Playoffs, he has 18 points (7G-11A), including one power-play goal, one short-handed goal, and one game-winning goal in 15 games. For his WHL Playoffs career, Byram has 25 points (10G-15A) in 22 games.
This season, Byram recorded 71 points (26G-45A), including seven power-play goals, one short-handed goal, and nine game-winning goals. For his WHL regular season career, Byram has 98 points (32G-66A), including 10 power-play goals, one short-handed goal, and 11 game-winning goals in 138 games.
April's honour marks the second time Byram has been named the WHL McSweeney's Player of the Month, earning the honour in January 2019 as well.
Byram and the Giants will open the 2019 Rogers #WHLChampionship Series Friday, May 3 (7:00 p.m. MT) on the road at the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert, Sask.
