GhostRiders look to rebound at home vs. Daytona

March 14, 2007 - World Indoor Football League 2 (WIFL 2)
Osceola Ghostriders News Release

[KISSIMMEE, Fla.] - The Osceola GhostRiders (1-1) will play host to in-state rival Daytona Beach Thunder (0-2) this Sunday on IOA Field at the Silver Spurs Arena.

The GhostRiders are coming off a tough road loss at Columbus. The Lions took it to the visiting GhostRiders early and entered halftime up 17-3. But backup running back Terrance Bunting and the GhostRiders defense sparked a second half comeback.

GhostRiders Defensive Coordinator Derric Coakley was pleased with his unit, "We held them to 109 yards. In an offensive league like the WIFL, that should be enough." Coakley continued, "I'm proud of our effort and we'll need that same intensity this week when we battle Daytona."

A 54 yard attempt by Tony Bugeja came up just short and the Lions held on to win 34-31.

This Sunday's game marks the first Daytona has played since the tragic passing of Thunder DB Javon Camon. The GhostRiders plan to honor Javon with a pre-game ceremony and moment of silence.

For an early season contest, it has the feel of a must win game for both teams. A winless 0-3 start for Daytona would put the Thunder in a desperate situation, while a 1-2 start for the team most considered the favorite to win the WIFL championship would be a tough hole to climb out of.

"Don't let their record fool you," said GhostRiders Head Coach Marquette Smith. "These guys have only lost by a combined 5 points and they are improving every week."

GhostRiders fans will want to come early Sunday as the first 3,000 fans will receive free cheerstix courtesy of Rec Warehouse. Fans can also enter for a chance to "Kick for the Keys" with Saturn of Osceola and drive off in a brand new Saturn Aura.

GhostRiders fans not in attendance at the Silver Spurs Arena can hear all of the action on the WIFL Internetwork audiocast beginning at 3:45 p.m.
