Georgia Gwizzlies News Release
Macon, GA. The ABA Georgia Gwizzlies have named legendary former SW Macon High School Coach Don Richardson as its new General Manager. During the 1970's, Coach Richardson led SW Macon to the national spotlight with such players as NBA stars Norm Nixon and Jeff Malone. "How can you be successful in basketball in Macon and Middle Georgia without Coach Richardson's leadership and wisdom," stated Gwizzlies team owner Embry Malone. "He might be 70 - but he has knowledge and wisdom and knows how to operate a team. We are pleased to have him."
The team also announced that long time Macon residents James Smith, John Bailey and distinguished retired Air Force officer and philanthropist Ted Albert have been added to the ownership of the team. Former Gwizzlies O'Nell Goodsen, who underwent five brain operations this past year will be honored by being the O'Nell Goodsen Player of the Week Award by the team. Goodsen was awarded the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2005 by the SEBL pro basketball league. For more information, email gwizzlies@msn.com or visit www.abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
