Generals' Scott Laughton Named OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Scott Laughton of the Oshawa Generals is the OHL Player of the Week for the first week of OHL Playoffs ending March 24 with six points in two games scoring three goals and three assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.

Laughton helped the Generals grab a 2-0 start in their first round Eastern Conference Quarter-Final series against the Niagara IceDogs with a pair of three-point games. He opened the series by scoring twice including the game-winner and an empty-net goal while adding an assist as third star of the 5-2 win on Friday night. In Game 2 of the series on Sunday, Laughton opened the scoring early in the first period then added two helpers including an assist on Scott Sabourin's second period game-winner as part of the 4-3 victory.

Laughton, an 18-year-old from Oakville, ON, recorded a career high 23 goals and 33 assists for 56 points in 49 games playing in his third OHL season with the Generals. A first round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2012 NHL Draft, Laughton made his NHL debut this season and played in five games with the Flyers.

Also considered for the award this week was Vancouver Canucks prospect Brendan Gaunce and Minnesota Wild prospect Tyler Graovac both of the Belleville Bulls who each scored twice with four assists for six points in three games. In goal, Anaheim Ducks prospect John Gibson of the Kitchener Rangers won two playoff games including one shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .977.
