Greensboro Generals News Release

GREENSBORO, NC— In the first playoff game in team history, the Greensboro Generals blasted the Roanoke Express 7-2 on Thursday night, taking a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-five series. The victory moved the Generals winning streak to eight consecutive games, extending from the end of the regular season.

The Generals scored the only goal of the opening period just over two minutes into the game, with Rod Aldoff batting home a rebound past Express netminder. The Generals then exploded for a season-high five goals in the second period, breaking the game wide open. Matt Turek started the barrage, with Jay Murphy connecting on the power play minutes later for a 3-0 edge. Following a Roanoke score, the Generals continued to pour the offense on, with Mike Bayrack, Sam Ftorek, and Kevin Grimes all getting their first goals of the playoffs. Bryan Richardson became the seventh General to tickle the back of the net with a third period goal.

Lost in the rout was the performance of Generals goaltender Daniel Berthiaume. The man who led the Express to seven playoff appearances stymied his former team with a 38 save performance

The Generals will look to gain a 2-0 series lead over the Express tomorrow night at 7:30 at the Greensboro Coliseum. The series then moves up Route 220 across the border to Roanoke for Game 3 on Saturday night at 7:35. Fans can check all the Generals action on WPET 950AM and www.greensborogenerals.com.
