Generals Outduel Pump Jacks
July 11, 2014 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
East Texas PumpJacks News Release
The Jacks battled Victoria to the end at Driller Park, dropping a 3-1 decision on Thirsty Thursday
The two teams have become quite familiar to each other, facing off in a doubleheader at Victoria's Riverside Stadium on Sunday before the all-star break. Thursday's game had a familiar feeling as well, with the two teams engaged in a close battle all night long, just like the weekend's double-dip.
The game was scoreless into the fifth inning as all-stars Jeremy Hallonquist and former Pump Jack Ty Schlottmann kept hitters off balance. Hallonquist struck out the side in the first and scattered four hits in the first four innings, while Schlottmann's night came to an end after three hitless frames.
In the fifth, a pair of errors sandwiched around a hit loaded the bases with Generals with no outs. Hallonquist worked out of the jam with minimal damage, allowing just one run and striking out the last two Victoria hitters to quell the threat.
The Pump Jacks answered in the home half of the sixth to tie the game at 1-1. All-star Joe Moroney and Connor Huesers singled with one out, and Peter Miller's base hit with two outs scored Moroney to even the score.
With the score tied heading into the late innings, it appeared the game would be another extra-inning affair between the Jacks and Generals.
The game strayed from the script in the eighth inning. Victoria opened the inning with three straight singles off of Kyle Garvin, who relieved Hallonquist in the seventh and stranded a runner at third. John Jaeger came in and hit the first batter he faced to force in a run. Two outs later, on the verge of working out of the jam, another walk gave the Generals a 3-1 lead.
In the ninth, the Pump Jacks put a runner on with two outs, bringing the tying run to the plate, but to no avail.
The Jacks and Generals will battle again on Friday night to close out the series. Friday will also continue the Pump Jacks 2014 giveaway schedule with Seat Cushion Giveaway Night, presented by Texas Spine & Joint Hospital and CBS 19. The first 500 fans through the gate will receive a free Pump Jacks stadium seat cushion featuring the popular "Boomer eyes" logo. The Pump Jacks go on the road over the weekend to visit the Brazos Valley Bombers before an off-day on Monday. The team will also have a little fun with Cow Appreciation Night on Tuesday and Will Ferrell's Birthday on Wednesday. Look for more information on those two events come Monday!
