Gators' Karasiewicz Named Sher-Wood Player Of The Week

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 23, 2009) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Trevor Karasiewicz of the Louisiana IceGators is the Sher-Wood SPHL Player of the Week for March 15-21.

Karasiewicz, who signed with the IceGators in late December after starting the season with Pensacola, scored three goals, added nine assists and finished +7 for the week as Louisiana won three of its four games.

On Tuesday, the seventh-year pro scored shorthanded and added three assists as the IceGators dropped a 7-5 decision at Pensacola. Karasiewicz came back on Thursday with a two-assist performance in a 5-3 win over Huntsville. On Friday, Karasiewicz had a hand in every Louisiana goal, scoring once and adding three assists in a 4-2 win at Columbus. He closed out the week with a one-goal, one-assist performance, scoring the game-winner in a 4-2 win over the Cottonmouths in the second game of a home-and-home series.

Karasiewicz, who hails from Thunder Bay, Ontario, currently leads the IceGators in scoring, having registered 44 points in 31 games since joining Louisiana. For the season, Karasiewicz is currently fourth in the league with two shorthanded goals, seventh in assists (37) and tenth in points (59).
