Gators' Goalie Mike Brown Named SBK Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, NC (November 8, 2011) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Mike Brown of the Louisiana IceGators is the SBK Player of the Week for October 31-November 6.
In the IceGators' only game of the week, the Baldwinsville, New York native stopped 26 shots in a 3-2 road win over the Mississippi Surge on Saturday, ending the Surge's three-game winning streak.
Brown, who was selected by the Boston Bruins in the fifth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft (153rd overall), came to the IceGators in a February 2011 trade with the Surge. Last season, Brown's 54 saves in a shutout effort (4-0 over Columbus on March 18, 2011) was the second-highest total in SPHL history, just two shy of the record of 56 set by Jacksonville's A.J. Bucchino in a 4-0 win over Columbus on November 15, 2007.
