Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Gary, IN- For the first time this season, the Schaumburg Flyers (11-15) were swept, and it couldn't come to a worse opponent. The division-leading Gary Southshore RailCats (20-6) defeated the Flyers 3-0, to earn the 3-game sweep, sending Schaumburg to its fourth straight loss.

RailCats left-handed starter Josh Habel (3-3) picked up the victory, his first complete game of the season, shutting out the Flyers. Habel gave up just 5 hits, while striking out 4. Of Habel's 27 outs, 16 of them came on the ground, as the Flyers were unable to hit anything into the deep outfield of the U.S. Steel Yard.

Flyers starter Billy Keppinger (2-2) had a rough start to the night, giving up a 2-run single to RailCats DH Steve Haake in the 1st inning. The Northwestern graduate Haake's hit was all Gary needed for their 20th victory of the season. The RailCats added an insurance run in the 5th inning, off an RBI double by third baseman Tanner Townsend. Keppinger lasted 7 innings, giving up 3 runs on 9 hits, striking out 4, while walking one. Keppinger threw 96 pitches, 67 of them for strikes.

The Flyers head up north of the border for the first time in the 2007 season, as Schaumburg manager Steve Maddock returns to play against his former team, the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Flyers right-hander Nat Harris (2-0, 3.80 ERA) will face the Northern League leader in ERA, Goldeyes righty Brett Lawson (3-0, 2.01 ERA).

The Schaumburg Flyers return to Alexian Field on Tuesday, June 19, to face the Joliet Jackhammers at 7:05pm. The first 1,500 kids (ages 14 and under) entering the gates will receive a Flyers Youth Cap, courtesy of Applebee's. To get your tickets for this game or any other game on the 9-game home stand from June 19 through June 28, visit the Alexian Field box office or purchase your tickets online at flyersbaseball.com
