Gary Steelheads News Release

GARY, Indiana (June 10, 2007) - Less than 24 hours after after the Gary Steelheads gave them their first home loss of the season, the Dodge City Legend took the floor fully focused. This time, they absorbed everything the Gary Steelheads could throw at them for a 114-98 victory at the Dodge City Civic Center.

In contrast to Saturday night's game, the Legend broke out quickly for a 20-5 lead midway through the first quarter. Gary cut it down to a 30-21 deficit by the end of the quarter. Newly-acquired David Mounds helped keep the Steelheads in the game, scoring 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting in the first half. Despite that, the Legend outscored Gary 28-24 for a 58-45 halftime lead.

Dodge City increased their lead in the third quarter, building the margin to 89-69 going into the final quarter. Through three quarters, the Legend committed just eight turnovers.

This time the fourth quarter would provide no surprises for the Legend, as they kept the Steelheads at arm's length. The Legend placed six players in double figures, with two others scoring nine points. Guard Elvin Mims paced the Dodge City attack with 21 points, while forward Chris Sockwell added 18. Forward Brian Lubeck turned in a double-double performance of 12 points and 12 rebounds for the winners.

The Steelheads were paced by Mounds, who fired in 32 points on the afternoon with 12-of-15 shooting from the field. Guard Carl Edwards added 17, while forward Lawrence Barnes added 12. Merrillville's Lonnie Randolph scored a season-high 11 points, handing out six assists.

Dodge City hit at a .500 clip from the field, while Gary hit .405 on the afternoon. Dodge City narrowly won the boards, 48-47. The Legend committed just 11 turnovers for the game.

The Steelheads played without Marlowe Currie, who suffered a groin injury in Saturday night's game and was taken to Western Plains Hospital in Dodge City. He was reported to be resting comfortably, but there was no indication regarding his availability for the remainder of the road trip.

The Steelheads fell to 15-10 with the defeat, while the Legend improved to 14-6 on the season. Gary has two road games remaining on the current trip. The Steelheads have a travel day Monday, before taking on the Oklahoma Storm in back-to-back games Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Gary is scheduled to face the Brooklyn Kings in the team's final home game of the USBL season Friday night at the Genesis Center.
