London Lightning News Release
(LONDON, Ontario) - Canadian shooting guard Garrett Williamson will return to London the 2016-2017 season, the Lightning announced Thursday.
"It is wonderful to have Garrett back in a London Lightning uniform for a third season," said Lightning owner and GM, Vito Frijia. "We value his competitive spirit and his leadership qualities both on and off the court. Garrett is the type of individual who will make a wonderful coach when his playing career is over."
Williamson appeared in 16 regular season games during the 2015-2016 campaign with the Lightning going 14-2 with him in the line-up. Williamson averaged 13 points and four rebounds per game during the regular season. He followed up averaging 17 points per game and shot 60 per cent from the field in the post season.
"Garrett embodies our philosophical approach to the game. It's exciting to have him back and with his experience, he will be able to help us from a coaching and playing standpoint. Garrett is also one of the toughest competitors in the league and he will be an essential piece to a run at the championship," said head coach Kyle Julius.
"I am thrilled to be returning to London for another season," said Williamson. "I have a lot of respect for our owner Vito, Coach Kyle and the entire Lightning organization. Most importantly, London has outstanding fan support and the fans are a major reason for my return and our team's ongoing success. I'm going to work very hard with our team at bringing another championship back to London."
