Rockford Thunder News Release

ROCKFORD - In what was a disappointing season for the Rockford Thunder, second baseman Lindsay Gardner ended what was a successful season personally, by being named to the All-NPF Team as an at-large selection on Thursday night in Kimberly.

In a year in which she only committed two errors, the five-year pro from Texas, had her best overall season at the plate. Gardner finished the 2008 campaign as the team's leading hitter in several categories, including average, slugging percentage, doubles, RBIs, hits and at-bats. Her double (7) and RBI (26) totals also were good enough to place her in the league's top five.

The fun did not end after the awards ceremony for Gardner, as she filled in for Thunder slugger Tonya Callahan in the leagues first-ever Battle of the Bats competition.

Entering the night trailing by one homerun Gardner put on an impressive display by hitting 12 home runs in the two rounds to win the competition by two homeruns over Washington's Oli Keohohou.

With the win Gardner and Callahan will split the $1,000 prize pot.
