Published on October 13, 2004 under Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) News Release
MAKING HISTORY: For the first time in the league's eight-year history, the WNBA sold out all three Finals Games, extending its Finals sellout streak to four games. Last season's Game 3 of the 2003 WNBA Finals (Los Angeles Sparks vs. Detroit Shock series) was also at capacity. Tonight's Game 3 between the Connecticut Sun and the Seattle Storm drew a sellout crowd of 17, 072 in Seattle's KeyArena.
GOING THE DISTANCE: This is the fourth time the Finals went the distance since expanding to a best-of-three series in 1998 (Houston over Phoenix, 1998; Houston over New York, 1999; and Detroit over Los Angeles, 2001). The home team has won each time.
BETTY YOUR BOTTOM DOLLAR: Betty Lennox led the Storm in scoring for the third straight game and was named Finals MVP. For the series, she averaged 22.3 points.
CONTINUED ACTION FROM JACKSON: Seattle's Lauren Jackson reached double figures for the third straight game, finishing with 13 points to go with seven rebounds. For the series, Jackson averaged 14.7 points and 8.0 rebounds.
ANNIE GET YOUR TITLE: Anne Donovan became the first female coach to win a WNBA championship. This after becoming the first coach to take two different teams to the Finals. In 2001, she guided the Charlotte Sting to the Finals.
KAMILA COME LATELY: After scoring a combined seven points in the first two games of the series, Seattle's Kamila Vodichkova scored 14 points in Game 3.
GOOD SALES PITCH: After breaking the single-game Finals scoring record with 32 points in Game 2, Connecticut's Nykesha Sales had 18 points in Game 3. For the series, Sales averaged 19.0 points.
