
Galaxy hero Galloway rewarded for record night

FRANKFURT Galaxy running back AHMAAD GALLOWAY (San Diego Chargers) has been named NFL Europe Offensive Player of Week 2 after rushing for a club record 161 yards during his team's 23-14 defeat of the Amsterdam Admirals on Saturday.
Galloway, who played for the Scottish Claymores in 2004, carried the football 31 times as the Galaxy overcame a 14-0 deficit to down the Admirals and even their record at 1-1. His rushing yardage total surpassed the club record figure of 143 set by Curtis Alexander against the Barcelona Dragons on April 20, 2002.
Galloway averaged 4.9 yards per carry with a long of 31 yards and scored on an 8-yard run in the third quarter. Through two games this season, Galloway has rushed for a league-leading 198 yards on 42 carries.
Linebacker MICHAEL BROWN (Atlanta Falcons) was one of two Berlin Thunder players honored this week for their roles in a 15-13 defeat of the Hamburg Sea Devils.
Brown recorded 3 tackles and came up with 2 key sacks for a total of 18 lost yards. His first sack came in the opening quarter as the Sea Devils were threatening to score the game's first touchdown having moved to the Thunder 4-yard line. Brown sacked Hamburg quarterback Casey Bramlet for an 8-yard loss and the Sea Devils were forced to settle for a Todd France field goal.
Brown's second sack came with 5:39 left in the first half as he dropped Ryan Dinwiddie for a 10-yard loss at Hamburg's 5-yard line. The play forced a punt that allowed the Thunder to begin their ensuing drive at the Sea Devils 26-yard line. Brown added 1 special teams tackle.
Special Teams Player of the Week honors went to Thunder punter BRIAN SIMNJANOVSKI (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), who placed three of his four punts inside Hamburg's 20-yard line, helping his club win the field position battle in a close game.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers allocate averaged 41.3 yards on four punts and landed his kicks at the Hamburg 2, 10 and 18-yard lines. His other kick saw Hamburg begin their ensuing drive at their own 20-yard line.
Simnjanovski's most important kick came inside the game's opening two minutes as he pinned the Sea Devils at their own 2-yard line with a 45-yard effort. On the following play, Hamburg running back Zack Abron was trapped in the end zone for a two-point safety that proved to be the margin of victory at the end of the game.
English wide receiver SCOTT McCREADY was named National Player of Week 2 after catching 8 passes for 88 yards during Hamburg's loss to Berlin. Those figures saw McCready become the all-time leader among national players in receptions (114) and yards (1,231), smashing the marks set by former Scottish Claymores wide receiver Scott Couper.
McCready, who won National Player of the Week honors four times as a member of the Scottish Claymores in 2004, ranks fifth on the NFL Europe League's all-time receptions chart. He took the national receiving records in his fourth NFLEL campaign after Couper took nine seasons to establish the marks.
NFL Europe Senior Manager of International Player Development JEFF REINEBOLD said: "Scott has proven that he is one of the outstanding receivers to have ever played in the NFL Europe League â American or international.
"We're extremely proud of what he has been able to accomplish because he exemplifies the attributes of hard work, discipline, commitment and professionalism that we are trying to get all the young international players to take on board."
