
Gaines and Clancy earn Player of the Week honors

Boise, ID (January 24, 2005) â The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Michigan Mayhem forward Charles Gaines was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, while Idaho Stampede forward Sam Clancy was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for the Week of January 16 â 22.
Gaines posted 22.6 points and 13.3 rebounds per game in three games played last week, while he also added seven points and six rebounds in the 21st CBA All-Star Classic on January 19, as a member of the Eastern Conference Team. On Friday, January 21, Gaines led the Mayhem with 29 points and 19 rebounds in a 109-99 (6-1) loss to the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The following night he posted 22 points and seven rebounds as he led Michigan to a 106-102 (6-1) road victory over the Dakota Wizards.
Idaho forward Sam Clancy earned his third Player of the Week award this season, and second in a row, by posting 30 points and 14 rebounds per game as he led the Stampede to a 1-1 record during the week. He also added 2.5 assists, 2.5 blocked shots and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting 58.0 percent (21 of 36) from the floor. In a 125-121 (5.5-1.5) victory over Dakota on Friday, January 21, Clancy notched 30 points, 17 rebounds and three assists. The following night, in a 101-96 (5.5-1.5) loss to Sioux Falls, he added 30 points, 11 rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals.
During the week, the USC alum also earned CBA All-Star Game MVP honors, as he led all players with 25 points and 17 rebounds for the Western Conference Team. The game MVP was voted on by media and scouts from 29 different NBA teams in attendance.
Other players receiving consideration were Great Lakes' Mark Jones (21.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg) and Dakota's Sean Lampley (18.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg).
