Detroit Fury News Release

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Detroit Fury, Detroit Pistons and NBA legend Bob Lanier will team up to host a group of 50 students at Selfridge Military Air Museum for the latest Detroit Fury Field Trip. On Thursday, April 24th at 2:00 p.m., students from the Youth Sports and Recreation Commission with the Pistons P.A.R.K. program will travel to Selfridge to learn how the military uses science on a daily basis.

"We continue our commitment to helping out in the community and with students especially," said Greg Myford, senior vice president of Fury football. "With the visibility of our military right now in Operation Iraqi Freedom, it's important for the students to understand that what they're learning in the classroom has 'real world' application, even on the biggest stage."

The field trip, sponsored by the Metro Detroit Ford Dealers and Towne Mortgage Company, will use aircraft and military personnel to teach students about science. After a briefing from senior members of the Selfridge staff, the kids will tour the air museum which features an Army Jeep and an F-16 cockpit, both of which they will be allowed to sit in. Following the tour, the group will visit Selfridge's Air Park, which displays 30 planes and helicopters for students to learn about. Also, the students will have an opportunity to write letters and make ribbons for soldiers serving the United States overseas.

The visit is both educational and timely with our country currently engaged in military action in Iraq and the Middle East. Also, the Fury has players and coaches who have military backgrounds or family who serve. The AFL is sponsored by the United States Army.

"In these challenging and difficult times, we want to thank those in our armed forces for all they do at home and abroad," said NBA legend Bob Lanier, former Pistons All-Star and NBA Hall of Fame inductee.

Established in 1975, the Selfridge Military Air Museum collects, preserves and displays military artifacts and memorabilia of relevance to all past and present military units at Selfridge ANG Base, in the Michigan Air National Guard, and in the Wayne, Oakland and Macomb County area.

The Fury (6-6) are currently in second place in the AFL's Eastern Division and travel to Las Vegas to face the Gladiators (6-6) on Sunday, April 27th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas and Mack Center. The Fury have three home games remaining and tickets can be purchased by calling (248) 377-0100. Additional information can be found at www.detroitfury.com.
