Fury Moved in Divisional Re-alignment
October 9, 2003 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Detroit Fury News Release
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -The Detroit Fury of the Arena Football League will return to the Central Division for the 2004 season, following a league-imposed divisional alignment change. After spending one season in the AFL's Eastern Division, the Fury have been moved as a direct result of the addition of three expansion teams to the league, during the off-season.
Joining the Fury in the Central Division are the Chicago Rush, Indiana Firebirds, Grand Rapids Rampage and last season's lone expansion team, the Colorado Crush, who were moved from the Western Division.
"We are excited about returning to the Central Division," said Fury Head Coach and General Manager Al Luginbill. "It makes more sense from an economic standpoint to be playing against Indiana, Chicago and Grand Rapids. I think our fans will like our alignment better as well. Last season, we had a great group of fans travel to support us in our playoff game versus Grand Rapids, and we would love to see that kind of support during the regular season."
With the switch, the Fury will have the opportunity to rekindle their intrastate rivalry with the Grand Rapids Rampage. One of the closest geographical rivalries in the AFL, Fury-Rampage games are historically heated contests . More fuel was added to the fire in 2003 when the Fury stunned the Rampage with a first round playoff victory last season in Grand Rapids.
The Fury return for their fourth season of Arena Football League action at The Palace of Auburn Hills this February. Season tickets for the Fury can be purchased by calling (248) 377-0100, and additional information can be found at www.detroitfury.com.
