Detroit Fury News Release

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Detroit Fury will kick off its Fury Field Trips program when they host 100 third and fourth-graders from Dixon Elementary School in Detroit at The New Detroit Science Center on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at 9:00 a.m. Kids will conduct experiments with Fury players to demonstrate scientific concepts directly related to football, including force, motion and leverage.

"The New Detroit Science Center has some amazing exhibits and resources providing a great venue for our players to get up close and personal with the kids," said Greg Myford, general manager for the Fury. "I think our players will make some new friends and this opportunity falls right in line with the Fury's commitment of being actively involved in the community, particularly in the City of Detroit. What I can't wait to see is how a 60 or 70-lb. kid uses leverage to lift a 1,000-lb. weight comparable to nearly four Fury linemen. The kids are really going to have fun while they are learning, and that's what it's all about."

Detroit Fury players, Chuck Winters, Ty Grovesteen, Drew Miller, Eric England, Marvin Thomas, Kraig Baker and Kevin Scott, along with Frenzy, the Fury mascot and Head Coach Mouse Davis, will participate in a science show on the DaimlerChrysler Science Stage. The show will focus on Sir Isaac Newton's three laws of motion. After the show, kids will break into groups, which will include a Fury player and a Tour Guide from the Science Center, and will explore the various exhibits focusing on motion, matter and energy, life sciences and waves and vibrations.

"We are very excited to partner with the Detroit Fury and to be the very first venue to host the Fury Field Trips program, which will expose even more children to the wonders of science, engineering and technology here at The New Detroit Science Center," said Shawn Kahle, president & CEO of The New Detroit Science Center.

The next Detroit Fury game is in Chicago against the Chicago Rush on Saturday, June 8, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. The Fury's next home game is Saturday, June 22, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. against the Chicago Rush.
