OTTAWA, ON - With the mercury rising in Florida, it was Ottawa Fury FC that caught fire Saturday evening snapping their three-game losing streak with a convincing 2-0 win to sink the Armada. A first half goal from newcomer Thomas Stewart and Carl Haworth's team-leading fourth of the season was all Romuald Peiser needed to backstop Ottawa to all three points. Bryan Olivera had a solid game in the Ottawa midfield setting up both Ottawa goals.

"We knew it was only a matter of time before we started to convert our chances and we did it tonight," said head coach Paul Dalglish following his squads first road win of the season. "I'm very pleased with our performance today. We put ourselves in a very good position scoring that first goal before the end of first half and it gave us the confidence we needed going forward."

"The player worked hard and they deserved the victory tonight. But just like we never go too down after a defeat, we don't want to get to high after this. We collected the three points tonight, but now we move on to Wednesday's home game against Carolina."

After a few great opportunities that saw James Bailey and Maxim Tissot barely miss the target and almost open the scoring for Fury FC, recently acquired Northern Irish forward Thomas Stewart connected on a great delivery from Bryan Olivera at the edge of the box and found the back of the net for the first time in Fury FC colours putting Ottawa ahead in the 37th minute.

Fury FC looked determined to increase their lead early in the second half with sustained pressure on Jacksonville's defense. Eddie Edward would have a great chance in front of goal in the 58th minute on a great cross from Stewart, but his header went wide at the back post.

Ottawa would double its lead minutes later as Olivera once again instigated the play winning the ball in the midfield and then making a 20 yard run before playing the ball across the top of the 18-yard box to an unmarked Carl Haworth who made no mistake sending the ball past Jacksonville's goalkeeper Sean Lewis for his fourth goal of the season. Credit to Julian de Guzman on that play as Ottawa's captain fooled the Armada defence by leaving the ball behind him to a running Haworth.

In the last minutes of the match Jacksonville pushed hard to try to erase the two-goal deficit, but Ottawa's defense was very sound in protecting the score and ultimately collecting the well-deserved three points.

Fury FC will return home on Wednesday night (July 27) to face Drew Beckie and the Carolina RailHawks at 7:00 p.m. to start a stretch that will see them play six of their next eight games at home.
