OTTAWA - The Ottawa Fury FC Annual Awards Gala was held on Thursday evening in Otto's Club at TD Place, commemorating some of the high points of the 2018 season.

While the Ottawa side narrowly missed out on the playoffs, finishing in 9th place, it was a season of renewal, with the club welcoming a new Head Coach in Nikola Popovic, under the guidance of returning General Manager Julian de Guzman, establishing a new team culture and model of play, as well as proudly showcasing an unprecedented number of Canadians on the field: 'The Project' took shape and a new Fury FC identity was born.

Thursday evening served as a celebration of what the club had achieved over the year, and highlighted the performance of some of his members. The club presented six awards: Community Award, Fans Player of the Year Award, Top Scorer of the Year Award, Newcomer of the Year Award, Player of the Year Award, as well as the newly created Young Player of the Year Award. OSEG Partner and Fury FC President John Pugh, OSEG Managing Partner and Executive Chairman, Roger Greenberg and Fury FC General Manager Julian de Guzman each took to the stage to share their highlights of the season.

Community Award (presented by Lauren Cheresna, Community and Events Associate for Giant Tiger)

This award is given to the player that best represented the club in our community throughout the season.

Winner: # 12 - David Monsalve

If goalkeeper Monsalve only saw the field on one occasion this season, that did not stop him from becoming a well-recognized figure in the Ottawa soccer community. Monsalve was heavily involved in the development and execution of new Fury FIT youth goalkeeping clinics and a regular on the Community Events circuit where he always represented Fury FC with pride, professionalism and positive energy.

Fans Player of the Year Award (presented by Kate Sherwood, Fury FC Season Ticket Member since 2015) as voted online by Fury FC fans

Winner: # 16 - Maxime Crépeau

Crépeau, on loan from Montreal Impact for the season, has set new clean sheets records, has provided great stability for Fury FC all season, and has always had time for a thankful handshake with the supporters that gathered behind his net all season, quickly earning himself a special place in Fury FC family's heart.

Young Player of the Year Award (presented by Derek Kuffer, Resident District Manager with Compass Canada)

This award is presented to the player under the age of 23 whose performance and hard-work stood out the most throughout the year, as selected by the team's technical staff.

Winner: # 26 - Thomas Meilleur-Giguère

Meilleur-Giguère returned to Ottawa for a second loan this season, and once given the chance to step on the field, did not look back. He established himself as a reliable and determined player, earning 26 starts and valuable experience that saw him grow tremendously on and off the field.

Top Scorer of the Year Award (presented by Arief Raun, Operations Consultant for Otto's BMW and Subaru)

This award is given to the player that recorded the most total points in the squad this season.

Winners: #8 - Steevan Dos Santos and #99 - Tony Taylor

Dos Santos climbed to a leading scorer title for the second year in a row with Fury FC, having cumulated five goals and five assists in USL play. Taylor, in his first year with the club, notched in six goals in all competitions and two assists. Both of them showed great chemistry all season long, patrolling opponents' zones.

Newcomer of the Year Award (presented by John Kealey, Agency Manager at Allstate Insurance)

This award is given to the player that was new to the squad for 2018 having a significant impact in the club's success.

Winner: #16 - Maxime Crépeau

Crépeau's first and likely only season with Fury FC was one to remember, with solid performances in front of net, coupled with a great work ethic and attitude, that will likely leave an impression as much off the field as it did in the record books.

Player of the Year Award (presented by Jenn Auld, District Vice President for TD Canada Trust)

This award is given to the player chosen as the most valuable player to the team as chosen by the club.

Winner: #16 - Maxime Crépeau

Crépeau produced one of the strongest performances by a Fury FC goalkeeper in club's history, featuring in 31 of the club's 34 USL matches, capturing a record-breaking 15 clean sheets in the process, breaking both club and league records. Named USL Player of the Month of May, his calm and confident demeanour on and off the field brought stability to the Fury FC formation and helped the team stay alive in its push for playoff participation until the very last minute.
