Ottawa Fury FC News Release
OTTAWA, ON - Fury FC scored a pivotal win Saturday night over one of the hottest teams in the NASL thanks to a second half surge led by Sinisa Ubiparipovic. The veteran midfielder setup the opening goal and scored the insurance marker with less than ten minutes to go securing all three points for Ottawa who remain atop the NASL Fall Season standings. On Monday, the North American Soccer League named Ubiparipovic NASL Player of the Week.
"It is an honour to be recognized by the League. It truly was a team effort Saturday night and my teammates deserve to be recognized for what we collectively achieved," said Ubiparipovic. "It was important that we had a good start to this road trip and we won an important three points Saturday night against the Strikers and now focus for another big test against the Cosmos on Tuesday."
Ubiparpovic's assist on the opening goal from Aly Alberto Hassan set a new club record for assists in a season. With his fifth assist in 2015, Ubiparipovic passes Tony Donatelli and Vini Dantas who each recorded four assists in the club's inaugural season in 2014. The Bosnian-born American notched his second goal of the season in the 81st minute sending Ottawa to a 2-0 victory and ending the Strikers six-game unbeaten streak.
"Sinisa had a very good second half against Fort Lauderdale," said head coach Marc Dos Santos. He had a direct impact on what we did offensively and was a factor on both our goals. Hopefully he will only keep growing in the remaining two months of the season."
The win was Ottawa's fourth straight on the road and extends their road unbeaten streak to seven matches.
After defeating the San Antonio Scorpions two weekends ago for the first time in club history, Ottawa picked up their first-ever win over Fort Lauderdale Saturday night. The only other team in the NASL that Ottawa has yet to record a victory against is the New York Cosmos who Ottawa face Tuesday night on Long Island. Fury FC will close out their road trip next Saturday in Carolina against the RailHawks - their third match in eight days.
Fury FC return home October 4th for the All-Canadian derby against FC Edmonton. Tickets to the October 4 match and the final regular season home match on October 18 against San Antonio are available at OttawaFuryFC.com.
