OTTAWA, ON - For one last time this season Fury FC will head on the road this weekend to take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies at the Al Lang Stadium on Saturday evening for their final road fixture of the regular season, as Ottawa will be looking to spoil Tampa's postseason hopes.
The primary focus for Fury FC at training this week was once again the work in the final third. Head Coach Paul Dalglish increased the finishing drills, hoping that his team will convert those scoring chances into goals this weekend.
"We've got to have more quality in the final third and that has been our focus at training this week and last week," said Dalglish. "I think we play our system very well. We're in the right positions most of the time and we press the way I want our team to press and we have the energy I am looking for. Now I hope to see more quality against Tampa."
Over the last six games, Fury FC have produced 86 shot attempts and have scored ten goals. Three players have been on fire lately factoring in on nine of those ten goals: Giuseppe Gentile, Carl Haworth and Ryan Williams.
Against Rayo OKC, Gentile scored his fourth goal in six games and once again proved to be a threat all-game long for Rayo's defence. The American forward is playing with a lot of confidence lately and he feels like that's all a striker needs.
"That's the life of a striker; once you score one the flood gates are opened." Said Gentile. "I hope my scoring run will continue against Tampa."
With most of the squad being healthy now, Gentile believes that the internal competition has helped raise his performance level.
"Everybody wants to keep their spot," added Gentile. "We're so competitive that we all want to take each other's spot but at the same time in the locker-room, we are all good friends. It's a healthy balance as we are competitive on the field and we're bonding off the field.
Fury FC will return home on October 29 at 2 p.m. to take on the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Fan Appreciation Day at TD Place - the final game of the NASL Regular Season.
