OTTAWA, ON - A late Jacksonville strike gave the Armada a 2-1 win over Ottawa Fury FC in a rain-drenched battle at TD Place. Fury FC opened the scoring courtesy of striker Carl Haworth's sixth goal of the NASL campaign but the home side was ultimately undone by two goals from Alhassane Keita.

"We've got to be better in front of goal. We've got to be better in the final third to create chances," said Fury FC Head Coach Paul Dalglish. "We've got to work away at it. We can't feel sorry for ourselves. We've gotta dust ourselves down and we have to have another good week of training and try to get that win on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale."

The visitors started off the game strong, forcing two early stops from Fury FC keeper Romuald Peiser. As the rain increased in intensity, so did Ottawa's and in the 26th minute the home team broke the scoreless deadlock. Newly acquired striker Danny Mwanga picked up the ball in the midfield, holding off a challenge before slotting the ball into the path of an onrushing Carl Haworth, who controlled the pass with one touch before finishing with a fine outside of the foot strike. It was Haworth's team-leading sixth goal in the NASL and seventh in all competitions. Haworth is now fifth in league scoring.

The home side's lead didn't last long as the visitors pulled level in the 28th minute via an opportunistic low strike from forward Alhassane Keita that found its way through and trickled inside the near post. The conceded goal was the lone blemish on a strong half from the Peiser who made three fine saves and handful of timely clearances.

The heavy rain eased up in the second half and Haworth nearly handed his side the lead in the 60th minute, but his one-time effort off a long corner kick could only find the side-netting. In the 80th minute, Armada FC's goal scorer Keita nearly doubled his tally on the night, striking a hard, low shot that forced another fine save from Peiser. With less than five minutes to go there were shouts for a penalty after Haworth was bundled over from behind along the goal line, but no call went his way.

Keita's search for his second goal of the evening ended in the 87th minute when he directed a fine header from Jemal Johnson's free kick past Peiser. Fury FC fought right until the end and nearly levelled the score in the 89th minute through Maxim Tissot, but his low strike lacked enough power to find the back of the net.

Fury FC travel to Fort Lauderdale next Saturday for a clash against the Strikers, before returning to TD Place to begin a three-game home stand starting with the return of Richie Ryan and Mason Trafford on August 24 when Miami FC come to town.
