OTTAWA, ON - A resurgent Ottawa Fury FC side looked to have Canadian rivals FC Edmonton right where they wanted them, but a goal with less than 10-minutes from full-time claimed all three points for FC Edmonton despite being reduced to 10-men for the final half hour. Ottawa outshot and out-chanced Edmonton, especially in the second half, but were unable to beat Matt VanOekel and the best defensive side in the NASL.

"It seems like it's the same story that has been going on the whole season", said head coach Paul Dalglish. " We play well, we play hard, we press, we win headers, tackles, we completed passes, we have shots on goal, we get crosses in the box but once again we didn't capitalize on our chances and we need to start doing that."

"This is a great group of players. It's only a matter of time before we turn things around. There is still plenty of soccer to be played and once we score one or two, there will be many more after that I have no doubt."

A quiet opening half saw both sides claim a few half-chances, but with points very crucial in the early stages of the Fall Season Ottawa and Edmonton were both patient and careful. Ottawa did claim some momentum before halftime with some great passing that carried over into the start of the second half. In the 54th minute, Carl Haworth was on the receiving end of a two-footed challenge from Pape Diakite that saw the Edmonton centre back receive just a yellow, despite calls for an ejection. Six minutes late the ejection would follow after another reckless challenge, this time on Dennis Chin, would see a second yellow card brandished and Edmonton reduced to 10-men.

From that point on Fury FC took complete control of the match that produced several scoring opportunities including a head from Eddie Edward - who was facing his former team for the first time - and a chance in tight from another newcomer Giuseppe Gentile who was unable to finish from in tight.

After collecting a loose ball in the midfield, Sainey Nyassi crossed for Canadian International Nik Ledgerwood whose curling shot found the back post to give the Eddies the 1-0 lead in the 82nd minute. The goal proved to be the difference despite a late push from Fury FC.

Fury FC will close out their two-game road trip next Saturday, July 23 in Jacksonville, before returning to TD Place on July 27 against the Carolina RailHawks to start a stretch that will see them play six of their next 8 games at home. Fall Season tickets are available, calling 613-232-6767 x1 or in person at the TD Place Box Office. The Fall Season schedule is available here.
