(Winston-Salem, NC) - Marc Dos Santos want his team to build chemistry, build a winning mentality and understand the model of play. Through five pre-season games, it appears his squad has done just that.

Ottawa's pre-season exhibition schedule culminated with a 2-1 victory over Wake Forest University Tuesday night in Winston-Salem, North Carolina as Fury FC complete their pre-season undefeated with a 4-1-0 (W-D-L) record. Mason Trafford and Tom Heinemann tallied for Ottawa each scoring their first goals in pre-season play.

It was a tame start to the game in the opening 15 minutes as both teams looked to get a feel for how the other played. After Wake Forest earned the first corner of the game, Ottawa marched down the pitch to earn a corner kick of their own. Patryk Misik's delivery was met by Mason Trafford who volleyed his first-ever goal in Fury colours into the top corner giving Fury FC the lead through 18 minutes.

From there the game would get physical and Rafael Alves and Tom Heinemann would each go into the book picking up yellow cards for their physical play. Undaunted, Wake Forest pressed and earned their first chance in the 36th minute, but Phillip Parker's shot missed wide.

After a Matthew Foschini free-kick was cleared, Nicki Paterson met the rebound, but his header went over the bar.

Paterson would again be at the heart of Ottawa's opportunities to start the second half. The first opportunity he watched his well-placed free-kick go uncontested through the penalty area, but Tom Heinemann made up for the missed opportunity in the 53rd minute heading Paterson's cross into the top corner for his first of the pre-season to give Ottawa the two-goal lead.

Seven minutes later, Nicki Paterson was at it again, but was denied a sure goal after the keeper parried his free-kick off the post and out for a corner. Fury FC would out shoot Wake Forest 9-6 on the night.

The home side would break the clean sheet in the 83rd minute as Hayden Partain beat Marcel DeBellis bottom corner from close range. Wake Forest would throw bodies forward late and threaten with a set piece in the 89th minute, but Fury FC held their ground to preserve the victory and an undefeated pre-season record for the second year in a row.

Canadian International midfielder Julian De Guzman arrive in North Carolina on Tuesday to join his teammates, but did not feature in the match after he played all 90 minutes Monday night captaining Canada to a 3-0 victory of Puerto Rico.

Despite his impressive performance Tuesday night, Nicki Paterson will not feature in Saturday's season opener in Carolina. Both Paterson and Oliver will miss the match due to suspension for yellow card accumulation to end the 2014 season. Midfielder Mauro Eustaquio will also miss the opener serving his 1-game suspension that carried over the regular season finale last season where he received a red card.

Fury FC will continue to train in Cary, NC for the duration of the week in preparation for Saturday's NASL season opener against the RailHawks at 1:00pm. Ottawa will then travel to Atlanta on April 11 before returning to TD Place to face Minnesota United FC in their April 18th home opener at 3:00pm. Tickets for the home opener and all games at TD Place are available at OttawaFuryFC.com.
