The new ABA Gwinnett Gwizzlies basketball program will be on display this upcoming week and will conclude by mid-July. The franchise has fielded two different summer pro league teams in two different summer pro leagues, a first for the ABA and minor league professional basketball.

From July 6-11 the Gwizzlies will play in the Kentucky Summer Pro Am. July 10-17 the Gwizzlies will play in the famed NBA Summer Pro League in Long Beach,California.

Gwizzlies officials are delighted that they are providing exposure for 30 young men, in two different summer pro leagues, to be watched by countless FIBA and NBA scouts, agents and general managers.

Our goal ever since we were awarded this franchise in February is to make an early statement, and by fielding two ABA teams in our first year in two summer pro leagues we have reach this short term goal, say Gwizzlies officials. Our next goal is to start having Gwizzlies ballplayers called up, signed to NBA contracts and lucrative FIBA contracts, state Gwizzlies officials.

In 2000 about 22 ABA ballplayers were called up to the NBA and the Gwizzlies hope to have many of their ballplayers called up to the NBA between now and March 2005.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
