PLANO, Tex. -- A perfect season was the furthest thing from Paul Schuler's mind when he started coaching his son's third-grade flag football team in the Plano Sports Authority (PSA) league.

But when Schuler walked off the Hoblitzelle Park Field after Wednesday's regular season finale, that's exactly what the Frisco Thunder's youth team had accomplished. The 36-0 triumph over the Cowboys gave the team an 8-0 record, the regular season title and the top seed for the playoffs.

``Our expectation was for the players to get better than we were at the start of the season,'' said Schuler, a Thunder sales representative. ``We've exceeded those> expectations."

While the team's defense has been outstanding, posting three shutouts and four games with giving up just one touchdown, Schuler says the offense has been the key.

``We're running a spread offense," Schuler said. ``Run and gun.''

Schuler's squad -- dubbed Thunder Gold -- was one of two Thunder-sponsored teams in the league. The second team -- Thunder Green -- is now competing in the McKinney YMCA league and has a 3-1 record with the only setback coming in an overtime decision.

Schuler and the Thunder will try to avoid Belichicking and continue their quest for perfection in the playoffs, which will run next Tuesday through Thursday.

The adult team resumed practice Wednesday and will return to action May 10 on the road against the CenTex Barracudas.
