Frisco Thunder News Release

FRISCO, TX. - Team owner Jake Reed announced today that he has hired Troy Esprit to be the Thunder's head coach for the 2008 season.

"The Thunder is extremely excited about bringing Troy to this franchise to develop a winning attitude," said Reed. "Troy will help guide and develop players to be young men and be respectful around the community. He will bring stability to this team, and having played the [arena] game, he knows what it takes to be prepared week after week. Our guys will be prepared to play at the highest level."

Esprit, 33, brings twelve years of Arena football experience to the second year franchise. After playing at Grambling State University, the Beaumont, Texas native enjoyed a successful and record filled seven year career in both the AFL and afl2, including seasons with the Florida Bobcats, Chicago Rush, and Pensacola Barracudas franchises, respectively. A two-way standout, Coach Esprit remains in the afl2 record books with his remarkable 13 reception, 4 interception effort while with Pensacola.

After concluding his playing career, Esprit has spent the past five seasons as a Defensive Coordinator in arena ball, including a stint with the Beaumont Drillers of the NIFL, and most recently with the Texas Copperheads of the afl2. Under Esprit's guidance the past few seasons, the Copperheads have finished in the upper echelon of the league in defense, including a #1 ranking in 2006. Esprit, known throughout the league as "Coach Spree", also brings plenty of playoff experience to the Thunder, having reached the playoffs four out of five years as a coach.

"The Frisco Thunder is a great fit for me," Esprit said. "I am looking forward to representing such a beautiful city and community, and I'm excited and honored to be a part of Mr. Reed's process of bringing success to the Frisco Thunder."

Esprit, who also owns a degree in business management from Lamar University, is preparing for the team's open tryouts on December 8th. "We are expecting a great turnout, and it's clear that a lot of people are excited for 2008." Call the Frisco Thunder at 972-731-6968 for more details.
