Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, CA - The Fresno Grizzlies have ushered in an exciting era today as they unveiled the new logo, color scheme, and uniforms that will shape the team's identity for the longevity of the franchise. After months of development that included strategic fan research and polling, the new Grizzlies look reestablishes popular elements in the team's heritage while moving towards a dynamic and modern twist on classic baseball style.
"We are thrilled to share the new Grizzlies identity and truly feel it reflects the vision of our fans, community, and staff," said Mike Maiorana, Grizzlies Executive Vice President. "This new look symbolizes both fun and tradition, two things we definitely pride ourselves on."
The new primary logo features a grizzly bear poised atop a custom and stylized "Grizzlies" font. The bear's menacing claws clutch the "G" and "S" of the team moniker, which is centered over a home plate that is highlighted with "Fresno" and anchored by a baseball.
In a move consistent with strong fan feedback, the Grizzlies will adopt an orange and black color scheme that mirrors their Major League affiliate - the San Francisco Giants. The Giants have been the only parent club in Fresno team history, with 2008 marking the eleventh year of affiliation between the two organizations.
The 2008 Grizzlies will sport completely redesigned uniforms that embody the team's early history while forging a powerful and distinctly new image. Fresno's white home uniforms will be accented with an orange trim; the home jersey will feature the custom "Grizzlies" font across the chest in orange. On the road, the Grizzlies will don traditional gray uniforms highlighted by the custom "Fresno" lettering in black. The "Bear Slash" alternate logo will adorn the left sleeve of both the home and road jerseys. A black alternate jersey features the white "FG" icon on the left chest and will be worn by the team at home and away.
Echoing the claw marks of the "Bear Slash" jersey patch, the black home cap is dominated by the orange "F Slash" icon. The "F Slash" icon, composed of a stylized capital "F" scratched by a bear claw, modernizes the recognizable cap logo that the Grizzlies wore early in team history. The new road cap is solid black and features the orange "FG" icon, a contemporary spin on classic interlocking baseball cap logos. One alternate cap features a white "F Slash" icon on a black cap with an orange visor, and another includes the white "F Slash" on a black mesh cap with orange trim.
The Grizzlies' new identity was designed by the Connecticut-based Silverman Group, one of the most respected brand development companies in the country. They have created brand identity programs for top professional sports, collegiate and entertainment properties including the Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks, Wake Forest University, the US Open, the Big East Conference and the FedEx Orange Bowl.
"The development process was very strategic and truly a collaborative effort that included the Grizzlies fan base," said Marc Jacobson, President of Silverman Group. "Years of feedback and a targeted online survey conducted by the team played a very strong role in the new team identity system that was unveiled today."
Having celebrated their tenth season in 2007, the new brand identity will catapult the Grizzlies into their second decade of play with an instantly recognizable look that connects with fans of all ages.
"This bold new identity blends great Grizzlies tradition with a classically modernized baseball look and feel. We believe it will resonate deeply with the fans and capture both the energy and intensity of the team on the field and the fun and excitement of the Grizzlies experience," added Jacobson.
New Grizzlies merchandise, including all four game caps, is available exclusively at the Fresno Professional Sports kiosk at the Fashion Fair mall and online at the newly redesigned FresnoGrizzlies.com.
The Grizzlies will wear their new uniforms for the first time on March 26, 2008 when they host the San Francisco Giants for an exhibition game at Chukchansi Park.
