Player Spotlight

Adrian (A.D.) McLeod

JAC Linebacker

6'1 235 lbs

College: Western Carolina

Hometown: Oxon Hill, MD

Last year was a crazy one for Adrian McLeod.

He was one of the first signings by then-new head coach, Kevin O'Hanlon, and the expansion Freedom organization in October of 2013.

Prior to the start of the season in March 2014, McLeod was traded to the Georgia Fire for future considerations. While in Georgia, he led all linebackers with four interceptions and had 32 tackles in seven games played. His year ended recognized as a first-team, All-PIFL JAC linebacker.

"Everything happened so fast," McLeod said. "Once I got traded, it was like 'Ok, you've got to start all over and get adjusted to the new team.' It was about getting on the field, perform, and make the best of every chance I got to go out there, and that's what I did."

His Georgia Fire scorched the Freedom 52-49 in Week 13 of last season. The chip on his shoulder was visible in that game as he led the Fire with nine tackles.

No other Georgia defensive player tallied more than three.

"When I played in Trenton, I made sure they regretted trading me," McLeod said. "That was a great game. It was good looking at Coach O'Hanlon and get the W on them. He's a longtime friend. I know he'd have felt the same way. We kept a great friendship throughout the whole season."

He's got another chance with the Freedom this season. He's looking forward to meeting his teammates and playing for O'Hanlon while being a part of a PIFL Championship contender.

McLeod also wants to make his presence felt on the field with the Freedom defense.

"For personal [goals], I'd have to say to lead the team in tackles and interceptions," he said. "A lot of people laugh when you say a JAC (linebacker) leads the team in interceptions, but I did it last year (with Georgia). For the team, it's to win the whole thing. I'm looking forward to this season."

Dancer Q&A

Danielle

Danielle is going into her second season with the Trenton Freedom Xtreme Dance Team. Media Relations caught up with Danielle to talk about her excitement to start the 2015 season.

Q: This is your second season with the team. What changes have you noticed so far? In addition, do you see the team moving in a positive direction?

A: Not only do we have many new dancers on the team, but our very own Rachael is now the new director of the team. Our practices this year are much more productive and we all have high expectations for our first game's performances.

Q: Talk about the photo-shoot. Your outfit was very unique compared to everyone else's. Did you like that your look was different? And was that outfit specifically designed for you?

A: I absolutely loved my outfit for the calendar photo shoot! Not only was it picked out for me, but it had to be designed on me. It was actually a large T-shirt cut to look like a bikini. We got the idea from a different calendar, and Rachael spent the morning cutting and tying the shirt to imitate it. The girls got some funny pictures of us in all these awkward positions!

Q: You were active this offseason in attending events on behalf of the team. How important was it for you to stay involved with the team and community?

A: Being active in the community is really important to me. As a member of the dance team I feel that it's my job to interact with the fans and get them excited for our season.

Q: You have a photo-shoot coming up for dance team trading cards. How are you preparing for it? And how different do you feel this'll be than the calendar photo-shoot?

A: It's so fun to be a part of a photo shoot, so I can't wait for this one! I'm preparing the same way I did for the last shoot by eating healthy, drinking lots of water, and exercising regularly. The main difference for this shoot is that we are wearing our new uniforms.
