Danbury Titans News Release
The inaugural seasons for the Danbury Titans and Brewster Bulldogs started rolling last week as both teams hosted a free agent camp at the Danbury Ice Arena. Over 30 players came into camp looking for a chance to come to training camp with either team. The players were put through a rigorous practice and scrimmages over the three days that culminated with an exhibition game Saturday night that had over 200 people in the stands.
"These camps are a way for guys who are coming into professional hockey to get their name out to teams. Because this camp was for two separate teams with pretty open rosters there was a lot of interest" commented Head Coach Phil Esposito. "We always find a couple of guys out of these camps who come out of nowhere and end up playing in this league".
As with all of these camps, the intensity rose as the camp went on. The games were high-scoring and competitive throughout including the final exhibition game which went into the third period tied. "Phil and I have run camps in the past and we both agreed that this was one of the best and most intense camps we have ever had", said Chris Hoeler, VP of Hockey Operations for the Titans. "I know Coach Esposito and Coach Lun were impressed with how the players acted throughout the camp and how seriously they took the practices & games".
Each team signed players to try-out agreements after Saturday night's exhibition game and these players will come back for rookie camp towards the end of October. Coach Esposito commented, "These guys have a long way to go before making the team but they have taken a big step. They know what our expectations are for them and what they need to do if they want to play in Danbury".
