Longueuil, Que. - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League recognized today the work accomplished by an individual who had a positive media impact and helped improve the league's image throughout the 2020-21 season by awarding the Paul-Dumont Trophy.

Awarded since 1990, the Paul-Dumont Trophy is handed out annually to the QMJHL's Personality of the Year. Well-known alumni such as Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Huberdeau, Brad Richards and Dominique Ducharme are among past recipients of the award.

The award is named after former league executive and president, Paul Dumont, who also served as general manager of the Quebec Remparts for the franchise's first six seasons. Dumont is also responsible for co-founding the now famous Quebec International Pee Wee Hockey Tournament.

The winner of the 2020-21 Paul-Dumont Trophy as QMJHL Personality of the Year is Dr. Nicolas Sauvé of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. Sauvé becomes the first doctor and first member of the Armada to win the award and was a key member that allowed the QMJHL to hold its 2020-21 campaign.

In a season played under never-before-seen circumstances due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Sauvé was named as the head of the QMJHL's medical and health committee and it was his expertise and counseling that led to the implementation of the health and medical protocol used in the league's different protected environments.

Dr. Sauvé also represented the QMJHL in countless meetings with the various Public Health departments and was the main point of contact for teams that were affected by positive Covid-19 cases. Dr. Sauvé remained available throughout the season, and to this day, to answer any questions athletic therapists, coaches, players, officials, billet families or QMJHL executives might have on the origin, impact and consequences of the coronavirus.

Other nominees for the 2020-21 Paul-Dumont Trophy were Val-d'Or Foreurs captain Jakob Pelletier as well as Chicoutimi Saguenéens forward Dawson Mercer, a finalist for the second consecutive season.
