Frankfurt Galaxy Game Preview
April 16, 2003 - National Football League Europa (NFLE)
Frankfurt Galaxy News Release
Frankfurt enters Week Three as the only undefeated team in NFL Europe. In a repeat of 2002, the teams start the season at opposite ends of the success spectrum. Berlin comes to the Waldstadion at 0-2, after losing a close contest at home to the Rhein Fire last weekend. The Galaxy opened 2002 4-0, while the Thunder limped to an 0-3 starting record. However, NFL Europe fans will remember that it was Berlin who finished strong, winning their second consecutive World Bowl while the Galaxy failed to qualify for the game. The Frankfurt coaching staff is committed to avoiding another steep fall after a hot start. The Galaxy and Thunder split their meetings in 2002, with Frankfurt winning the season opener at home 27-24. Berlin returned the favor in the season finale, handing Frankfurt a 27-7 loss. The Galaxy hold a 5-8 all-time record against the Thunder, dating back to 1999.
LAST WEEK'S GALAXY ACTION
The Galaxy marched into Glasgow, Scotland, and effectively shut down the potent Claymores offensive machine, while scoring enough points to secure a 17- 13 victory. After scoring 62 points and setting numerous NFLE records in a drubbing of the Thunder, Scotland fans and players alike were confident more records would fall against Frankfurt. It was not to be. A fantastic defensive gameplan bogged down the Scottish attack and forced four Claymores turnovers. The Week One Offensive Player of the Week, Claymores RB-Ken Simonton, was held to 27 rushing yards and no touchdowns as the team managed just 50 yards on the ground all day. Alate Jonas Lewis touchdown sealed the Frankfurt victory and a 2-0 record.
