Chicago Rush News Release

CHICAGO (JANUARY 10, 2012) - The Chicago Rush is proud to announce that the Oakland Raiders of the NFL have signed Rush rookie FB Rayshawn Jackson.

"We are thrilled that Rayshawn was given this opportunity," said Rush head coach Bob McMillen. "This is a testament to the caliber of players that our Director of Player Personnel, Scott Bailey, has recruited to the Rush. Chicago's the biggest market in the AFL, and players can really get the exposure here that is going to help them get to the next level."

Jackson was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Carolina Panthers in April of 2010 after playing collegiately at the University of Virgina. He played in 23 games for the Cavaliers offense and also served as an integral member of the special teams unit. Jackson rushed 14 times for 52 yards against Texas Tech in the 2008 Gator Bowl.

This is the fourth Rush player to join an NFL squad in the last 6 months. Safety Travon Bellamy joined the Washington Redskins practice squad in December and resigned on January 3rd. Additionally, DE Jonathan Freeny signed with the Miami Dolphins practice squad in December and resigned on January 5th while DE Martin Parker joined the New York Giants last season as well.

"We want Chicago to be the place where players can come in and use the AFL as a gateway to the NFL," says Rush Director of Player Personnel, Scott Bailey. "The talent in the AFL, in my opinion, is as high as it's ever been. It is a league designed for young talent, and I think we will see more and more AFL players signing NFL contracts in the future."
