Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, Ala. - MLB Pipeline announced its first Los Angeles Angels Top 30 prospect list for the 2019 season Friday, and the list includes 14 players who have appeared with the Mobile BayBears.

Outfielder Jo Adell retains his spot as the top prospect in the Angels farm system. The 2017 first-round draft pick was promoted to Mobile in late July and played 17 games with the BayBears to finish the season. Adell was the youngest player in the Southern League at just 19 years old and the second youngest in Double-A baseball. He is currently rated the No. 14 prospect in all of Major League Baseball and represented the Angels in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game last year. The 19-year-old received a non-roster invitation to MLB Spring Training for the first time in his career.

Right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning follows Adell as the No. 2 prospect in the Angels organization and the top-rated pitcher. Canning made 10 appearances with the BayBears and started a pair of combined no-hitters on April 28 and May 14. The Southern California native was selected by the Angels in the second round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of UCLA. Canning, like Adell, is attending his first Major League Spring Training as a non-roster invitee. He begins the 2019 season as the No. 63 prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.

Additional former BayBears in the Top 10 of the Angels farm system include second baseman Jahmai Jones (No. 4), left-handed pitcher Jose Suarez (No. 5), infielder Luis Rengifo (No. 7), and first baseman Matt Thaiss (No. 8). Suarez and Rengifo were added to the Angels 40-man roster this offseason, while Jones and Thaiss are attending MLB Spring Training as non-roster invitees.

Mobile native and St. Luke's product Jeremiah Jackson is ranked No. 9 in the organization. Jackson was selected in the second round (No. 57 overall) of last year's draft and ended the season with Rookie-level Orem.

Two-way player Jared Walsh (No. 21), catcher Jack Kruger (No. 24), and right-handed pitcher Jeremy Beasley (No. 25) are new additions to the Angels Top 30. The complete prospect list is available at MLBPipeline.com.

In a two-year span, 12 former BayBears have made Major League debuts with the Angels as the club's Double-A affiliate. There are also 12 former BayBears on the Angels 40-man roster, including former Arizona Diamondbacks prospects Justin Upton and Tyler Skaggs. The Angels begin their 2019 Spring Training schedule Saturday against the San Francisco Giants.

The BayBears open the 2019 season at Hank Aaron Stadium on Thursday, April 4, at 6:35 p.m. and host 70 home dates through Labor Day, September 2. Season ticket packages and partial plans are available now, featuring a 7-game plan and a 12-game option that includes tickets to Opening Day, July 4, select fireworks nights, and bobblehead giveaway nights.
