Saginaw, MI - The Saginaw Sting are pleased to announced the signing of four former players to the 2012 roster. Returning from the 2011 roster are WR Zach Nichols, DE Michael Carter and DL/OL Vernon Burden. Also returning from the 2008 CIFL Champion team will be RB Keath Bartynski.
Michael "The Professor" Carter, a former Saginaw Valley State University player brings his veteran experience back to the team in 2012. "Micheal is a returning captain from last year's championship team. He is a tremendous leader that has a great amount of experience from which our younger players can look up to and learn from," said co-owner Stuart Schweigert. After playing for the Sting last season, Michael traveled to Germany once again to play for the Frankfurt Universe.
Vernon Burden, a four letter athlete from the University of Findlay (Ohio), will suit up for his third season with the Sting. "Vernon is like a swiss army knife," said co-owner Robert Licht, "Last season we were able to rely on Vernon to play any position we asked of him." Burden played fullback, offensive lineman, defensive lineman, and even linebacker in 2011.
Burden brings five years of indoor football experience back to the team for 2012.
Zach Nichols, a Northern Michigan graduate and Brighton native took his show on the road following the conclusion of the 2011 championship game. Nichols joined the cast of MTV's Real World San Diego which recently aired in the offseason. Zach, an extremely talented wide receiver, will return for his second Sting season in 2012. "Nichols is the type of guy who has an opportunity to showcase his ability at receiver," said Schweigert, "He has the talent to play in the UFL or CFL and we will do everything we can to make that a reality."
Keath Bartynski, a former Nouvel Catholic Central all-state football and track star and four year starter at SVSU will suit up for the Sting in 2012. "We're very excited to have Bartynski with us this year," said head coach Vince Leveille, "He's a great all around running back that can play all 3 downs for us." Keath played for the 2008 championship team, and returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown in his first ever indoor game.
