Four Dans Named Postseason All-Stars
(DANVILLE, IL) - There were four players from the 2019 Danville Dans roster that have been selected as postseason All-Stars by the Prospect League's 12 field managers.
Brad Powers, a senior-to-be at Towson University, was selected as first baseman. Powers hit .344 and played in 50 of the Dans 60 game schedule. He led the team in doubles (16 - 7th in the league), RBIs (47 - tied for 7th) and tied for team lead with 62 hits and nine home runs. He also led the Prospect League in drawing 40 walks.
Max Jung-Goldberg, a sophomore-to-be at University of San Diego, was one of two outfielders selected. Batting .348, he led the team in runs scored with 53 (7th most in the league) on a team that set a league record of 483 runs scored. Jung-Goldberg was tied for the team lead in three categories: 62 hits, 4 triples and 9 home runs. He was tied for 2nd most walks in the league with 39 free passes.
The other All-Star outfielder was senior-to-be Aidan Malm, from Long Beach State University. Malm hit .360 for the season (tied for 5th best in the Prospect League). He led the team with 19 stolen bases (7th most in league) and was tied with Jung-Goldberg for 2nd most walks in the league at 39. He had the league's second-longest consecutive on-base streak at 36 games that was active at the end of the season.
One of the Dans pitchers was also selected. Ryan Patel, a sophomore-to-be at St. Louis University, had a 3-0 record with three saves in fifteen games, including two starts. He led the team in ERA (1.90) and WHIP (.990). He struck out 42 batters - 30% of the 142 batters he faced - while walking just 11.
All four of these players were also selected to the midseason All-Star game roster. Patel was the starting pitcher, with Jung-Goldberg and Powers also starting the game. Jung-Goldberg was named the All-Star Game MVP, going 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs.
The Dans finished the season with a 40-21 mark, the second-highest win total in team history. They won the East Division regular season standings and lost a one-game playoff to eventual Prospect League Champions Chillicothe Paints by a score of 3-1.
