Forward Townsend Signs with Blaze
August 8, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bloomington Blaze News Release
The Bloomington Blaze, fueled by Mid-Illini Credit Union, has signed New Jersey native Charlie Townsend.
Blaze head coach Brian Gratz will be leading Townsend in his second consecutive season after both spent 2011-12 with the Dayton Gems. Out of the 37 games played with the Gems, Townsend racked up 14 points, spent 30 minutes in the penalty box, and kept a +2 plus/minus rating last season.
Before entering professional hockey, Townsend, a 6'4", 225-pound forward, played for four years at Middlebury College in Vermont. The school is known for its success, including three consecutive NCAA Division III national championships from 2004 through 2006 by both its men's and women's teams.
"Charlie is a big, hard working forward that can play in a variety of situations," said Gratz. "He is physical on the forecheck and takes pride in killing penalties."
