Fort Worth Membership Revoked
Published on October 26, 2011 under American Association (AA) News Release
DURHAM, NC - The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball has revoked the membership of Fort Worth Baseball Club, LLC, which had operated as the Fort Worth Cats. The club was unable to provide the Letter of Credit for the 2012 season, as required by league by-laws.
Miles Wolff, Commissioner of the American Association, made the following statement: "We regret having to take this action. Fort Worth has been a valuable member of the league since we restarted in 2006, and we hope to find ownership that meets our requirements and will enable Fort Worth to continue in the league for the 2012 season and beyond."
A dispersal draft was held for the Fort Worth players. If new American Association ownership is found for Fort Worth, the drafted players will be returned to the Fort Worth roster. The Winnipeg Goldeyes were slated to pick 13th overall, but the eight players manager Rick Forney submitted to the league office as possible selections had already been chosen in the draft.
Opening day for the 2012 American Association season is scheduled for May 17, with each team playing a 100-team schedule.
