Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
FORT MYERS -- Only one early-half inning featured runs, but it was a handful of them, and they were enough to give the Fort Myers a 5-0 win over the Charlotte Stone Crabs at Hammond Stadium on Friday.
The Miracle brought 10 men to the plate and plated five in the bottom half of the first inning against Charlotte starter C.J. Riefenhauser (7-3).
That was more than enough for the Fort Myers pitching staff, led by starter Matt Hauser (2-1) who threw five scoreless innings. The righty faced just one batter over the minimum over that time, bringing a no-hitter into the fifth before a one-out Riccio Torrez single up the middle broke it up.
Charlotte could only manage five baserunners all night, two of which were erased on ground-ball double plays by the very next batter.
Riefenhauser settled down nicely after his rough first frame, going four more scoreless, allowing just one hit and at one point retiring 11 batters in a row.
Both bullpens did their jobs as well. George Jensen started the sixth inning for the Stone Crabs in relief of Riefenhauser and threw three scoreless to finish it off. A.J. Achter and Michael Tonkin combined to put up zeros in the final four innings for Fort Myers.
These two clubs will clash in the rubber match of this three game series back at Charlotte Sports Park on Saturday. Left-hander Braulio Lara will get the ball and the start for Charlotte, opposed by righty Tom Stuifbergen. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
