New Orleans VooDoo News Release
NEW ORLEANS - Delvin Breaux, a former member of the New Orleans VooDoo, signed an NFL contract with his hometown New Orleans Saints, announced Adam Schefter of the NFL Network.
"Its been a long journey and though it is something that I'm proud of and a dream come true, I know that I will have to prove myself in training camp. I can't wait," said Breaux. "The VooDoo gave me my opportunity to play; gave me my first real opportunity to play professional football at a high level. I will always be thankful for that opportunity."
While with the VooDoo, Breaux saw action in three games during the 2013 season where he recorded 10 defensive tackles (8 solo, 2 assisted) and one pass breakup. He signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League mid-season, and did not finish the 2013 season with the VooDoo.
Since his time with the VooDoo, Breaux has starred the past two years with the Tiger-Cats, guiding the team to the Grey Cup this past season. Breaux finished his two-year stay with the Tiger-Cats with 62 total tackles, two forced fumbles and one interception. The interception was returned for a 27-yard touchdown. Hamilton agreed to release Breaux on Saturday so that he could sign with the Saints.
Breaux, listed at 6-foot-1 and 193 pounds, worked out for the Saints on Friday after being cleared medically a day earlier.
Breaux, a New Orleans, La. native, suffered a serious neck injury in 2006 while playing for McDonogh 35 High School. He was one of the nation's top recruits prior to the injury, and signed his NLI to play at LSU; however, he was never medically cleared to play college football at LSU.
