Former USA TODAY All-America RB Joins Steeldogs

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Birmingham Steeldogs have announced that former Mississippi State tailback Dontae Walker has been assigned to the Steeldogs.

The 5-10, 240-pounder appeared in 43 games during his career at MSU and his 22 touchdowns ranks fifth in the school's history. Walker rushed for 100 or more yards seven times during his career and finished with 417 carries for 1,845 yards (4.5 average per carry). He appeared in the 1999 Peach Bowl catching a 15-yard TD pass to seal Mississippi State's victory over Clemson. In the 2000 Independence Bowl, Walker turned in a scintillating performance, amassing 143 yards on 16 carries with three rushing touchdowns versus Texas A & M.

"I am very excited about the potential Dontae will have with the Steeldogs", said Steeldogs Head Coach Bobby Humphrey. "He has all the tools and athleticism to become an impact player for our team."

Walker played his prep ball at Clinton High School in Mississippi. A USA Today first-team all-America selection and highly regarded as one of the top athletes coming out of high school, Walker finished his high school career with 5,153 yards on 586 attempts (8.8 average per carry) with 78 touchdowns.
