Former SPHL Goaltender Scott Darling Wins NHL Debut

October 26, 2014 - SPHL (SPHL) News Release

HUNTERSVILLE, NC - Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Scott Darling became the first former SPHL player to play an NHL game, defeating the Ottawa Senators 2-1 on Sunday. Darling made 32 saves in the win, the only goal against coming on a 3-on-1 shorthanded break in the second period, and was named First Star of the Game.

Darling played in the SPHL from 2010-2012 with Louisiana and Mississippi (RiverKings), posting a 21-39-1 record, 3.32 goals against average and .899 save percentage.

"We are extremely proud of Scott Darling becoming the first former SPHL player to reach the NHL," said President Jim Combs. "His rise from our league to the NHL only increases the visibility and reputation of the SPHL throughout the hockey world and shows that with hard work and determination, you can accomplish anything."

Originally selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the sixth round of the 2007 NHL Draft, Darling signed as a free agent with the Blackhawks this past off-season.
