Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

GRAND RAPIDS - Former Grand Rapids Rampage and longtime Arena Football coach Rick Frazier passed away last weekend from pneumonia. The 53-year-old father of three spent three decades coaching football, including spending one season (2004) as the Rampage's defensive coordinator and interim head coach.

"Rick was a great man," said Rampage General Manager Scott Woodruff. "I appreciated the time I spent both as his colleague and his friend. He will be missed."

An Arena Football veteran, Frazier spent seven seasons (1995-2001) with the Arena Football League's Milwaukee Mustangs, including four years (1998-2001) as the team's head coach. After one season (2002) with the AFL's Toronto Phantoms, Frazier made his first appearance in arenafootball2 as head coach of the Norfolk Nighthawks in 2003. After his year with the Rampage, he returned to the af2 and the Quad City Steamwheelers from 2005-06, and most recently served on the Bakersfield Blitz' coaching staff in 2007.

A Texas football legend, Frazier began his career at the age of 21 as the head coach of Cumby High School, leading the school to a 33-25-2 record over four years as one of Texas' youngest coaches. He then spent 11 seasons at Cisco College, becoming the school's winningest head coach after compiling a 43-25-2 record.

Frazier is survived by his son, Donnie Joe, and twin daughters, Jolenna and Brianna. Services will be held tonight (Nov. 19) in Frazier's adopted home of Harland, Wis. His funeral and burial will take place Wednesday in his hometown of Tyler, Texas.

The Steamwheelers Fan Club has established a memorial fund to help Frazier's family defray any medical and burial costs.

To contribute, checks must be made out to the Steamwheelers Fan Club and sent to:
