Pulaski Mariners News Release
The "voice of Pulaski Mariners baseball" is moving onto higher ranks within the Seattle Mariners farm system. Cheyne Reiter, a 2013 University of Iowa graduate, will be the lead play-by-play broadcaster and director of media relations for the Clinton LumberKings this upcoming season, Seattle's Single-A affiliate.
Reiter was brought aboard last March by former General Manager Ryan Kiel. As the media relations intern and play-by-play broadcaster, Reiter called nearly every home game, in addition to various road games continuing through Pulaski's thrilling run to their first Appy League championship since 1991.
Despite the return back to his home state, Reiter said Virginia will always be his second home.
"The people of Pulaski, the other interns, the front office, everybody was so great. The adjustment of moving over 1,000 miles from home couldn't have gone more smoothly."
When asked what he'd miss most about Southwest Virginia, the answer for Reiter was easy.
"Sweet tea and Mariners fries. That was my pregame ritual, go grab a sweet tea and fries. I'm a sweet tea addict now," laughed Reiter.
At the University of Iowa, Reiter did play-by-play and color commentary for the student radio station KRUI covering Iowa Hawkeyes football, men's and women's basketball, and wrestling. He also was a public address announcer for various Iowa athletics including swimming and diving, women's soccer, softball, and baseball.
The LumberKings, located on the Iowa-Illinois border near the Mississippi River, play a 140-game regular season schedule in the 16-team Midwest League. The league includes teams from Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan.
Chris Prieto, Pulaski's 2013 Manager, and athletic trainer Geoff Swanson are both making the jump to Clinton this season as well.
The LumberKings open their regular season April 3rd on the road against the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
