Norfolk Nighthawks News Release
NORFOLK, Nov. 4, 2002 -- The Atlanta Falcons announced that WR Jason Waters has been signed to the practice squad. The Falcons had an opening on the five-man practice roster after WR Quentin McCord was signed from the practice squad to the 53 man roster.
Waters, 5 -9, 180 pounds, signed with Atlanta after a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers. Waters started his professional career with the af2 Norfolk Nighthawks, where he played both WR and defensive back.
"We're very proud of Jason," said Nighthawks Co-Owner and General Manager Ken Easley. "He has proven the value of Arena Football and the objectives of this league, which is to provide young athletes additional training and a platform to showcase their talents."
Waters saw action in 12 games for the Nighthawks in 2001. He caught 38 passes for 429 yards and five touchdowns. Waters also ran the ball seven times for 65 yards and a touchdown. Waters also spent time with the Buffalo Destroyers and the Grand Rapids Rampage (both of the Arena League).
The Chesapeake native, University of Tennessee and Deep Creek High School alumnus is the first Nighthawks player to sign an NFL contract. Former Nighthawk Chris Avery signed a contract with NFL Europe two years ago. Waters signed his contract on October 30, 2002.
