Former Dragons Nate Johnson and Greg Stempin Added to Lakers, Spurs Summer League Squads

COLUMBUS, GA—Two more former members of the Columbus Riverdragons, guard Nate Johnson and forward Greg Stempin, have been added to 2004 NBA Summer League rosters and will perform in front of NBA general managers, coaching staffs, and scouts in their efforts to win roster spots for NBA training camps that begin in late September.

With the additions of Johnson and Stempin to NBA Summer League rosters, a total of 10 current or fomer Riverdragons are participating in 2004 NBA Summer League action. Five members of the 2003-04 Riverdragons squad participating in NBA Summer League action include: Derrick Zimmerman, Terence Morris, Nick Sheppard, Adam Harrington, and Ezra Williams. Dragons players from the team's first two seasons participating this summer include: Johnson, Stempin, Gabe Muoneke, Nate Green, and Lonnie Jones.

A total of 66 players and three head coaches from the NBDL's first three seasons are participating at five sites for NBA Summer League action: the Pepsi Pro Summer League in Orlando, Fla., Minnesota Summer League in Minneapolis, Minn., Reebok Vegas Summer League in Las Vegas, Nev., Southern California Summer Pro League in Long Beach, Ca., and the Reebok Rocky Mountain Revue in Salt Lake City, Utah.

• Johnson, a two-year Dragons veteran and 2003 second-team All-NBDL selection after pacing the D-League in scoring at 19.2 points per game, is currently competing for the Los Angeles Lakers squad in the Southern California Summer Pro League in Long Beach, Ca. that runs July 10-25.

• Stempin, the Dragons fourth leading scorer (10.6 ppg) and rebounder (4.8 rpg) during the 2002-03 campaign, has joined the San Antonio Spurs for the Southern California Summer Pro League. The 6-8, forward from the University of Toledo contributed 13 points on 5-7 shooting, while grabbing five rebounds in the Spurs 97-75 win over the Golden State Warriors summer squad on Monday, July 12.
