ORLANDO - The Orlando Predators have agreed to terms with former AFL Defensive Back of the Year and First Team All-Arena performer Kent Richardson, the franchise has announced.
"Kent is a dynamic player in the secondary with big game experience and has the ability to make game-changing plays," said Head Coach Rob Keefe. "He's proven his ability in the AFL and has aspirations of playing at the highest level. We strive to build our roster around like-minded players with that kind of ambition."
Richardson (6-0, 205, West Virginia) spent his first four seasons in the Arena Football League with the Philadelphia Soul, posting 214.0 total tackles with 22 interceptions, 41 pass breakups, eight fumble recoveries, and six forced fumbles. He led the team with 64.0 tackles as a rookie in 2011.
Richardson enjoyed a breakout season in his sophomore campaign, earning the Defensive Back of the Year Award and First Team All-Arena honors after leading the AFL with 14 interceptions. That performance caught the attention of the Cleveland Browns, who signed Richardson to a contract for training camp in 2013.
Richardson returned to the AFL with the Soul in 2014, posting two interceptions in four games. Last season with Philadelphia, he logged 61.0 total tackles with 13 pass breakups, five interceptions, and four fumble recoveries.
A native of Tallahassee, Richardson attended Rickards High School. He played in 50 games during his college career at West Virginia University, where he helped the school reach four consecutive bowl games.
