Danville Dans News Release

DANVILLE, IL - There's no doubt that someone is nervous standing at the plate for your first MLB at-bat. But it didn't bother Ryan Schimpf, as he lined a double to right field in his first plate appearance with San Diego. The Padres selected his contract from their El Paso triple-A team yesterday. The move made Schimpf the 27th Dan to wear an MLB uniform.

Schimpf joined the Padres system last fall, when they signed him to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training this year. Up to that time, he'd been a part of the Toronto Blue Jays farm system since being drafted by them in the 5th round of the 2009 MLB Draft.

Schimpf, from LSU, was on the Dans 2007 roster - along with AJ Griffin (currently with the Texas Rangers) and Chris McGuiness (played for the Rangers).

Born in New Orleans, Schimpf has hit .355 this spring at Triple-A El Paso, with 17 doubles and 15 home runs while striking out just 33 times.

Schimpf wasn't the only Dan to see action at third base on Tuesday. Danny Worth made his Houston Astros debut, getting a single in his first at-bat with the team. A former Detroit Tiger (2010-14), Worth has been with Triple-A Fresno this spring.

"It was a big day for the Dans," said managing partner Jeanie Cooke. "It's great to see Ryan make his MLB debut. And it's wonderful for Danny to get another chance to play, this time with the Astros. This shows the current Dans that the work they do now could pay off for them in the future."

A founding member of the Prospect League, one of the premier summer college leagues, the Dans continue their 29th season of wood-bat baseball this summer. More information about the Danville Dans, including upcoming home game schedule, is available online at www.DanvilleDans.com.
